The solution also allows for rapid switching between the two.
The solution is based on Anritsu’s MD8475x base station simulator platform and Thales’ On-Demand Subscription Manager (OSM). It was designed to allow Groupe PSA to conduct a full laboratory test of vehicle with the eSIM integrated into a car’s Telematics Control Unit (TCU).
The car’s eSIM has a profile that allows it to connect to the mobile operator’s network. Until now, only one environment, live or laboratory, could be used in the validation and in the verification test of the vehicle. The new solution allows the eSIM to be switched easily to the laboratory profile. This lets the test team control the simulated network environment as well as the measurements.
Thales OSM switches the profiles over the air at the press of a button. The integration process demonstrated the the change from live to test profile and back again. Initially connected to the live Mobile Network Operator (MNO), the eSIM switched its connectivity to the test radio network from the base station simulator.
Previous methods of swapping profiles included physically desoldering the embedded SIM and replacing with another, or using commands in the TCU, which can be complicated and could lead to undesired changes in TCU firmware.
