Startup Ampere prices ARM server chips
Ampere Computing LLC (Santa Clara, Calif.) has announced the availability of the eMAG processor – formerly known as Skylark – and revealed more details of its multigenerational roadmap.

The eMAG provides 32 Ampere-designed ARMv8A cores running at up to 3.3GHz clock frequency in a turbo mode. There are eight DDR4-2667 memory controllers, 42 lanes of PCIe 3.0 and comes with a 125W rating. The chip has been manufactured in TSMC's 16nm FinFET process.

The company is designing its next-generation server on 7nm with more cores multi-socket and single socket options and due to be available in 2019.

The 32 core version is priced at $850 while a hobbled 16 core version is available for $550.
