Siemens grows IC-EDA presence, buys Solido Design Automation
Adding to its IC and SoC design automation portfolio built around the former Mentor, Siemens is to acquire Solido Design Automation Inc. (Saskatoon, Canada), provider of machine learning-based, variation-aware design and characterization software used in IC design and verification.

Variation-aware design and characterization, Siemens says, has become fundamental in developing semiconductor products optimised for power, performance, and cost. In analogue, mixed-signal, memory, and standard cell design, the verification software needs to deliver very high confidence in the simulation results while avoiding time- and resource-intensive analysis methods. Solido‘s machine learning-based, variation-aware design and characterization software is employed to deliver the required confidence while reducing time and resources and delivering opimised data visualization.

Solido’s machine learning-based products are, Siemens continues, currently used in production at over 40 companies. The acquisition of Solido further expands Mentor’s analogue/mixed-signal (AMS) verification portfolio. The terms of the transaction are not disclosed. Siemens expects to close the transaction in early December 2017.

Siemens PLM Software is a business unit of the Siemens Digital Factory Division ,with headquarters in Plano, Texas.
