Infineon has launched a self-contained Raspberry Pi audio amplifier HAT board featuring high definition audio at high power levels.

Infineon’s proprietary multilevel technology cuts size and power consumption to provide HD audio quality for the Raspberry Pi.

The KIT_40W_AMP_HAT_ZW board is compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero W and Raspberry Pi 3 and 4. The HAT is built around Infineon’s MERUS multilevel class D amplification technology in the form of the company’s MERUS MA12070P amplifier. The amplifier is designed for filter-free amplifier design with no need for the filter-coil at the output filter to reduce BoM, cots and allow smaller PCB designs. The board provides up to 40 W instantaneous peak power at 4 Ohm. It is efficient enough to offer up to 20 hours playback time with a ~6700 mAh power bank. Only a single 5 V/2.5 A USB power supply is required to power the Raspberry Pi and the HAT.

The board is compatible with Linux distributions such as Raspbian, Volumio, moOde Audio or JustboomPlayer. Dual-channel bridge-tied load (BTL) or single-channel parallel bridge-tied load (PBTL) configurations for Multiroom, TWS, or subwoofer applications are also possible.
