The two companies have formed a joint agreement that will see Bosch Sensortec develop software based on MEMS sensing solutions in the Qualcomm Sensor Execution Environment. The resulting software will provide advanced features for smartphones and wearables. The first developments in the program include an angle detection algorithm for Bosch Sensortec’s IMUs. The algorithm will detect various states in foldable smartphones. Another solution will be an improved environmental sensing algorithm, the Bosch Sensortec Environmental Cluster (BSEC). BESC runs on Bosch Sensortec’s BME680 4-in-1 environmental sensor to calculate the compensated outputs for ambient pressure, temperature, relative humidity and air quality, easing the sensor’s integration into the end device.
Through the collaboration, third parties will be able to integrate Bosch Sensortec algorithms with Qualcomm Sensor Execution Environment, which will assist in the integration of software into complex architectures, like those found in smartphones.
Qualcomm Sensor Execution Environment is a software framework for running sensor drivers and algorithms. It has been developed to run software in a low power domain while optimizing performance. The algorithms are available to customers developing solutions for the companys Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platforms.
Bosch Sensortec’s BME680 is a gas sensor that offers high-linearity and high-accuracy gas, pressure, humidity and temperature sensors. The BME680 has low power consumption, high stability and high EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) robustness – depending on the specific operating mode. The BME680’s gas sensor can detect a broad range of gases.
Bosch Sensortec develops its IMUs for advanced smartphones, wearables, AR and VR, drones, gaming and robots applications. An IMU like the BMI260 combines a self-calibrating gyroscope with an accelerometer in one SiP. It enables real-time motion detection, indoor navigation, gesture and activity recognition as well as optical and electronic image stabilization (OIS / EIS).
