The module has been developed to provide a small solution for the transmission of large quantities of data in connectionless environments.
The Panasonic PAN1780 module has been designed around the Nordic nRF52840 single-chip controller. The controller features an Arm Cortex-M4F processor core with 1 Mbyte embedded flash and 256 Kbyte RAM. The Nordic SoC is designed to allow the use of the module in standalone mode. Standalone mode eliminates the requirement for an external processor, allowing both a reduction in cost and board space. To support the SoC, the module also features an Arm TrustZone CryptoCell 310 security core that provides a secure boot process and allows the module to be used in edge computing applications.
The Panasonic PAN1780 module's Bluetooth 5.0 features allows a high symbol rate of 2 Mbits per second (Mbps) through the high-speed LE 2M PHY. The module can also be set up to provide a significantly longer range through the LE coded PHY at either 500 Kbits per second (Kbps) or 125 Kbps. The module has a high output power of up to +8 dBm and an excellent sensitivity of (-103 dBm at 125 Kbps) which in combination with the LE coded PHY ensure that the module is ideal for applications that require long-range communication. In addition to Bluetooth Low Energy with qualified Bluetooth mesh profile stack, the module also supports 802.15.4 (Thread and Zigbee) and NFC-A.
The small 15.6 mm × 8.7 mm × 2.0 mm module has the same form factor as Panasonic’s PAN1026A and PAN1762 modules, but has a smaller pitch and more pins. The PAN1780 module provides a compact solution for smart city infrastructure, industrial mesh networks, Industry 4.0 robotics, and smart medical applications.
