Module turns any surface into touchscreen

January 08, 2019 // By Julien Happich
Bosch Sensortec has developed an interactive projection module that can turn any surface into a virtual touchscreen, for example turning ordinary shelves into personal assistants.

Measuring only 47x43mm, the BML100PI's outputs a laser beam that creates a focus-free image on any surface. The module then scans it line-by-line to detect any gestures or finger movements. No calibration or adjustment is required for accurate gesture and touch recognition. One module can provide touchscreen functionality on up to six different surfaces. It can project a sharp image on to any type of surface, regardless of whether it is dark, colored, wet, stepped or curved, making such interactive projection suitable for bedrooms, home appliances or kitchen gadgets.

The unit draws 2W typical. The BML100P variant provides the same projection features but without the touch functionality.
