MCU certified to PSA Level 2 and SESIP Assurance Level 2

NXP’s LPC55S16 MCU has been certified to Level 2 by both the PSA Certified scheme and the GlobalPlatform Security Evaluation Standard for IoT Platforms (SESIP).
NXP’s LPC55S16 MCU has been certified to Level 2 by both the PSA Certified scheme and the GlobalPlatform Security Evaluation Standard for IoT Platforms (SESIP).

Device security and data protection are becomming one of the most important factors for connected devices. The new certifications validate NXP’s security-by-design approach and enhance confidence in NXP enabled edge devices.

The NXP LPC55S16 MCU is part of NXP’s EdgeVerse computing and security portfolio, and a member of the company’s LPC5500 MCU. It is based on the Arm Cortex-M33 core in fabricated in 40-nm NVM process technology, and it provides advanced security and mixed-signal capabilities.

Both the SESIP and PSA Certified testing and certifications have been provided by Brightsight, an independent security evaluation laboratories.

PSA Certified Level 2 is based on a comprehensive assurance framework that demonstrates the robustness of the security, enabling a reduction in the need for additional security testing. It uses a 25-day time-boxed laboratory evaluation against the PSA Root of Trust (PSA-RoT) security claims to demonstrate that the device can protect against scalable software attacks.

To get GlobalPlatform SESIP 2, the LPC55S16 MCU underwent source code analysis and penetration testing issued by Brightsight. The device was then validated by a second independent certification body. SESIP certification tests and verifies product security claims, and provides evidence of the LPC55S16 MCU’s resistance to basic attack potential. The LPC55S16 MCU validation results can be reused in the certification process for end applications.

The LPC55S16 MCU integrated security features include:

• Arm TrustZone technology
• AES-256 accelerator
• PRINCE module for real-time encryption and decryption of the on-chip flash
• CASPER Crypto co-processor
• Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) using dedicated on-chip SRAM
• 128-bit unique device serial number for identification (UUID)
• True Random Number Generator (TRNG)
• Code watchdog enables integrity checking of execution flow of the firmware
• Debug authentication protocol for secure debugging
