Renesas claims the company’s new ASI4U-V5 ASSP is the industry’s first silicon solution that fully implements the ASi-5 (Actuator Sensor Interface version specification version 5) standard.

ASi-5 is intended to offer higher performance and usability over the previous Asi-3 standard with a 1.27 ms cycle time, 200m cable length and 96 slaves per segment. The ASSP provides an easy-to-use fieldbus integration option for sensors, actuators, and other industrial equipment.

ASI4U-V5 uses verified and field-proven firmware to minimise the complexity of ASi-5 implementations. It is backwards compatible with ASi-3 devices while offering the benefits of shorter cycle times, higher bandwidth from Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), enhanced diagnostics, and robustness. ASI4U-V5 also supports all bus topologies, including line, star, and tree. It also provides simple and cost-efficient integration with other industrial protocols such as IO-Link and HART.
