eMCOS POSIX OS Supports Kalray’s Coolidge intelligent processor

eSOL’s eMCOS POSIX RTOS will now offer support for Kalray’s Coolidge third-generation MPPA (Massively Parallel Processor Array) intelligent processor.
eSOL’s eMCOS POSIX RTOS will now offer support for Kalray’s Coolidge third-generation MPPA (Massively Parallel Processor Array) intelligent processor.

The support will allow designs using the MPPA Coolidge to be used for advanced applications, including Autoware and AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform software for autonomous driving and ROS2 for robotic control. The processor can also be used for edge computing, data centres, medical equipment, HPC and machine learning (ML). The support will also allow designers to access the high computing performance and low power consumption of the 80-core MPPA Coolidge on the same terms as existing multi-core processors - with a POSIX-compliant, secure software platform.

eMCOS POSIX complies with the POSIX PSE53 profile for running multiple processes. The software has a proprietary distributed microkernel architecture to allow the maximum performance to be leveraged from the MPPA Coolidge manycore processor. It also provides scalable support across different processor configurations, from single-core through to multi-core, many-core and multi-chip. Scalable support is also provided for heterogeneous processor configurations.

The eMCOS platform eliminates single points of failure and provides freedom from interference (FFI) in the software that requires a mix of different automotive safety integrity levels (ASILs), an essential requirement of Functional Safety (FuSa) standards.

An optimized development environment and tools are available for creating advanced applications with multiple POSIX processes targeting the MPPA Coolidge.

In heterogeneous hardware configurations, eMCOS supports profiles that include POSIX, AUTOSAR and a hypervisor. This degree of flexibility allows the RTOS to provide optimal computing performance from MPPA Coolidge. The manycore processor is able to be used as a stand-alone embedded platform that mixes functions with different criticalities on the same chip, or as a high-performance accelerator when operated beside a separate host processor.
