Advantech has launched the ROM -5620 SMARC 2.1 module, the company’s first Arm Cortex A35 board featuring NXP’s i.MX8X application processor.

The ROM-5620 has a low-power consumption design, which can operate in the extended temperature range from -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for automation equipment and HMI devices. The module uses an automotive-grade SoC and industrial grade components to provide long life cycle support. It comes loaded with AIM-Linux and WISE-DeviceOn software services, along with industrial-focused apps and SDK add-ons within the Linux BSP. Two GbE Ethernet controllers, 2 x CAN bus, software configurable display solutions with dual-channel LVDS or MIPI-DSI and a range of I/O interfaces such as PCIe 3.0, USB 3.0 and 4-Lane MIPI-CSI2 are supported.

The ROM-5620 has 40% better overall performance and 10% lower power consumption compared to the previous Cortex-A7 platform. The NXP i.MX 8X SoC can have either 2 or 4 core Cortex-A35 processors for mid-range automation and industrial applications, a Cortex-M4F core for real-time processing, and a Tensilica Hi-Fi 4 DSP for audio and voice codec execution. A Vivante GC7000 Lite GPU provides the graphical features with a 4K H.265 capable decoder and a dual 1080P60 display controller.

The module uses high-bandwidth 2GB LPDDR4 memory, 16GB eMMC and dual GbE LAN controllers. It has a display solution for 1 x dual-channel LVDS or 2 x 4-lane MIPI-DSI through software configuration.

Advantech supports the Allied, Industrial and Modular (AIM) framework for Linux applications to help quicken software development through long-term support. AIM-Linux services feature verified embedded OS platforms and industrial-focused apps and SDKs. ROM-5620 is comes with WISE-DeviceOn for securely automated device onboarding, remote device monitoring and software over-the-air updates.
