The Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC offers 6 ARM cores, a Mali 400MP2 GPU (EG/EV variants), up to 10 GByte DDR4 SDRAM, 16 GByte eMMC flash memory and up to 256,000 LUT4 equivalents. The device also provides a wide variety of standard interfaces and 178 user I/Os. Standard interfaces include Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, a display port, SATA and SGMII. Both the processing system and the FPGA matrix boast four PCIe Gen2/3 connections. Two independent memory channels – one on the PS and one on the PL – allow it to offer memory bandwidths of up to 24 GByte/s. The small module measures only 56 × 54 mm.

System-on-Modules (SOM), such as the Mercury XU5, assists in reducing the time-to-market and development risks of new products. SOMs offer advantages over chip-down designs. For example, off-the-shelf FPGA and SoC modules are manufactured in high production quantities, which reduces their cost. At the same time, they offer a proven and reliable solution. Different pin-compatible modules are available in the same form factor, allowing products to be easily equipped with a more powerful module if required for higher performance, or a less powerful module to save on costs. The high functional density of FPGA modules reduces the complexity of the baseboard, making it faster and less expensive to develop. If the processor module is used alongside a baseboard like the Mercury+ ST1 or Mercury+ PE1, the combination provides a complete, powerful development and prototyping platform that can cut time-to-market even further.

To support the Mercury XU5 SoC module, Enclustra also provides a comprehensive ecosystem, that offers all of the hardware, software (Linux Board Support Package/BSP) and support materials needed. Detailed documentation and reference designs make it easy to get started, in addition to the user manual, user schema, a 3D-model, PCB footprint and differential I/O length tables.
