Base stations reducing complexity of IoT smart parking projects

By eeNews Europe

Tearing down IoT interoperability and complexity barriers, Libelium announces the integration of its smart parking devices with Multitech base stations for Europe, United States and Australia. The MultiConnect Conduit IP67 Base Station of Multitech is a ruggedized IoT gateway solution, specifically designed for outdoor LoRa public or private network deployments.

This way, Libelium includes in its catalog these LoRaWAN base stations configured from the factory to be used in smart parking projects.

The LoRaWAN communication protocol works in two steps: on the one hand to operate the base stations that receive the information from the devices and, on the other hand, each base station forwards the information captured by the sensors to the network server that is configured. But the Multitech base stations do the same proccess in just one step, forwarding the information directly from the devices to the customer service without using the network server.

Until now, Libelium’s Smart Parking solution was compatible with Loriot and Actility network servers. As a result of the new integration, one of the main advantages is the ability to deploy Smart Parking installations without the cost of the network server provided by third parties. In fact, up to now the data captured by the sensors had to pass through Loriot or Actility. With this integration, the nodes send the information directly to the base station and, once there, it can reach Libelium Cloud or the customer server but they no longer have to go through others as before. Libelium has developed a ‘Custom App’ that runs inside the base station and communicates with the smart parking server through an internet connection.

With this application the customer can:

  • Configure where to send smart parking data: to Libelium Cloud or to the customer server (installed on its own server).
  • Easily register all the nodes by importing a CSV file, saving time in case of large deployments.
  • Check if the communication between the nodes and the server is working correctly.
