The MXT288UD-AM and the MXT144UD-AM devices have low-power mode, weatherproof operation and glove touch detection for multi-function displays, touchpad and smart surfaces.

It is possible to place secondary touch surfaces in both the interior and exterior of motor vehicles. The MXT288UD family is available in a 7×7 mm automotive-grade VQFN56 package, allowing suppliers to reduce board space by 75%, and minimize BoM, while providing reliable touch performance. Devices in the new range feature a low power wait-for-touch mode that consumes less than 50 µA, while still remaining responsive, even if the display is switched off.

MXT288UD-AM and MXT144UD-AM devices can detect and track multi-finger thick gloves through a range of overlay materials and thicknesses, even when moisture is present. The dielectric constant of overlay materials can often limit touch detection, but the new devices offer a unique solution for the reliable detection and tracking of multiple touches with high SNR and a proprietary differential mutual acquisition scheme.

The MXT288UD family provides a turnkey solution with firmware that has been developed according to Automotive SPICE processes and is AEC-Q100 qualified. Software tools include the maXTouch Studio and a maXTouch analyzer. For the MXT288UD, the hardware offered includes an evaluation kit that features a PCB and a 5” capacitive touch panel. The MXT144UD’s evaluation kit has a PCB and a 2.9” capacitive touch pad. A bridge PCB woth both evaluation kits with a USB connection to interface to a computer when running maXTouch Studio.
