New Portfolio of 3D NAND Embedded Flash Drives

Western Digital has launched a new range of embedded flash drives (EFDs) targetted at smartphone manufacturers.

The iNAND portfolio combines 64-layer 3D NAND technology with UFS and e.MMC interfaces to provide a higher level of performance and capacity. The iNAND 8521 and iNAND 7550 EFDs are designed to allow developers to implement data hungry applications in mobile platforms, such as augmented reality, 360 o video, multi-lens cameras and AI driven technologies. These data centric applications require a new level of memory performance.

 

The iNAND 8521 EFD is designed for flagship 5G mobile phones and uses an UFS 2.1 interface and fifth generation SmartSLC technology to double sequential write speed and increase random write speed by up to ten times over the company’s previous generation solution for high-end phones.

 

The iNAND 7550 EFD is Western Digital’s solution for mid-range phones and it uses an e.MMC 5.1 interface to offer sequential a write speed up to 260 MB/s and read/write performances of 20K and 15K IOPS respectively for provide faster boot times and application launches.
